Radio Commercial Project
I just recently did a radio commercial for this class. It was very interesting to learn about how to work with audio. While doing the project I felt like I stepped out of my comfort zone quite a bit just talking into the microphone. When I was working with the audio Mr. Holt told us to go by how it looked then focus on the way it sounds after. I found this to be the most difficult aspect of making the radio commercial because it is just audio and I think of this as just listening rather than watching the levels of the audio. The worst part about the project was listening to my voice repeatedly to get the timing just right and make a thirty-second commercial. The best part of the commercial is getting to write it out and coming up with ideas for one. At first it was a little difficult, once I found a topic it was the easiest part of the project. In addition, to do this project we worked with Adobe Audition, when we first started learning to work with this I was not quite sure how I felt about it. Once we got started and learning more about how to work with Adobe Audition it was one of the most fun program I have worked with.
TV Commercial Project
While coming up with an idea for the commercial I found it kind of difficult. Coming up with an idea for the commercial was the hard part once I had the idea the rest was easy. For this project, we had to do storyboards that also help quite a bit while doing this. The storyboards are basically an outline for the commercial and just like writing a paper it made it easy to begin the process with an outline. Having a general idea of what I wanted to do made it easier to get all the right shots instead of going into it blindly. While making the commercial I thought it was really fun because I got to do it over something that I am passionate about; cheerleading. Editing and putting together the commercial was also a fun learning experience. We have already used Premiere Pro but while doing the commercial I learned more about it and how to do new things in it that I have not yet learned. The best part of the commercial was finding the music and making it go well what I wanted for the theme of the commercial. As of right now I’d say that this is one of the best projects I have had to do. It was a great learning experience and was also really fun to make.
TV Holiday Greetings Project
We did a holiday greetings project to put on the BBN TV channel and i found this project very easy. It took us two days to do, one day to come up with the idea and the second day to do and finish. I did this project with another girl in my class, Stormy Wells, so that also made it easy to come up with different ideas. While we were trying to come up with ideas some of them were kind of crazy but we finally decided on something quite simple. While we were making it we did a voice over with a Christmas picture. The voice over wasn't the best because whenever we did it we both have a habit of giggling at the end so we had to edit the voice over a bit. We also had music playing in the background of our voices. Finding the music was simple but we had to find a way to balance our voices and the music. We didn't want it so loud that you couldn't hear us but we couldn't just leave it the way it was either. Adjusting the music and voices was difficult for us because we both forgot how to get the fading just right. Luckly our teacher Mr. Holt was there to help us and remind us how to do it or it wouldnt have turned out as good as it had.
PSA Project
While doing this PSA project I found it hard to find a subject that would not be offensive to anyone in the school. Once I found an idea of what I wanted to do it was a matter of how I am going to accomplish what I wanted with the video. I wanted it to be very effective and for it to send the message I wanted to. While shooting the shots I knew exactly what to do but I needed some help from my mom and my sister. They had absolutely no idea what I was trying to accomplish so I had to try and explain exactly the effect I wanted from the video. Once my mom had understood what I was trying to do she did everything the way I wanted her to. Of course it did not always go the way I had wanted it to but even so I feel like all of the shots were just as good as they would have been even they did it the way I had wanted them to. It was hard to control what my sister was going to do because she is only three and did not really understand but it was still a fun experience. While I was putting all the clips together, I started to get excited because it was one-step closer to being done. Doing the voice over wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I do not like to hear my voice but I felt like if I did it the video would be more my creation rather than someone else’s. All in all, this project was fun and did take a lot of creativity to make.
Refresher
We just got back from winter break. I spent most of my break working and spending time with family. I am involved in many activities so it was nice to make up the time I have missed with them. If I am being completely honest, I wasn’t ready to come back but at the same time just want to get high school over with. Coming back to this class Mr. Holt allowed us to just play and refresh our memories on Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition. While we played with each of the programs, it took me a minute to get back into the groove of each one. Although it was rough, getting back into each one Adobe Audition was the hardest because we used the program a little but I used that one the least last semester. Using Premiere Pro was one that I just brought pictures and audio into and was able to get what I wanted to accomplish easily. I do not have a video for this project because it was more for me to learn more and understand the concept of each program. I am excited for this semester’s project because the first semester was more of a learning process while this semester is about doing more. I can’t wait!
Seat Belt PSA Project
This project was a whole lot more easy than the others mostly because I had a partner to help me with the things I wasn't good at. While we were taking the shots we were confused as to what exactly we wanted each shot we wanted to accomplish. We had a general idea of what we wanted to accomplish through the whole video though. We also didn't use any audio from the camera but we were able to find audio that we needed for the seat belts and the dinging in the car that matched up with our video. Stormy was our actor for this project while I filmed and finished the project. I knew more about how to make the video look better and how to make the sound work with what we wanted. So it was easier for me to make the finished product with transitions that look and sound smooth. Stormy and I worked on putting the video together but I did more of the effects on the video so that it didn't just consist of jump cuts or fast audio changes. Once we finished the project we were critiqued which gave us more ideas of what to do that could make the video better.
Silent Story
For this project Mr. Holt told us to tell a story only using sound effects and music, with no voice overs. When I first started to think about something to do I could not think of anything for about five minutes. Mr. Holt told us to tell a story that grabs the audience attention and makes them cry, laugh or be scared. I finally came up with the idea of doing something about my friends and I, it would not really yank on others emotions but it would for my friends and I. Since it's our senior year I decided to do something about us and how we were going to all leave and go to different paths because of the colleges we decided to go to. While doing this project I kind of worked backwards, most people would get their shots first them find music that fit their ideas. I decided to find music first then do my shots, I already had an idea of what I wanted it to look like. The only thing I struggled with was finding a time that we could all be there to work on it because of our busy schedules. Once I got the video together I liked it but it was hard to find videos of my friends that would not be vertical so there is one video that is vertical. All in all I liked the idea of this project but wish I had more time to make it better.
Chase Scene
This project was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. My video was definitely not the best but it was fun to make. The point of it was to get different angles of each part and have a lot of movement. I thought that this was fun because I kind of got the experience of a director. I was able to tell where I wanted the camera positioned as well as what I wanted the other person to do. I feel like I could have done better in getting more shots but I liked the way things were. I struggled with getting more angles because of where I was or maybe I was not thinking outside the box enough. Either way this project made me get a better idea of how important the shots are in each video. The way everything is shot can determine how well the video turns out. It also effects the way a person feels in the video. It was really hard for me to figure out exactly what I wanted to do it on and the intensity of the video. The video did not accomplish what I wanted it to but it was fun.
